The best film of the Indian Century!

The biggest brainwave to have hit Madhu Muttam(story writer) is the biggest blockbuster in Indian Cinema. No matter how many time you see this movie, u sit wide-mouthed and in awe!

"Manichitrathazhu" (starring : Shobhana, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi)was so widely accepted that the Kannadigars remade it into "Aptha Mitra" (starring: Soundarya, Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh). Expectedly, it became one of the biggest grossing films in the kannada film industry as well. Dalapathi Rajnikanth caught Aptha Mitra while in banglore and was inspired to remake it in Tamil. This way Aptha Mitra was remade into Chandra Mukhi(starring : Jyothika, Rajnikanth, Prabhu). The movie became the biggest film in the tamil film industry of that year.

Shobhana, Soundarya and Jyothika all inacted the role of "Ganga"; the psycotic patient; it was the role of their lifetime! It got Shobhana the much coveted National Award; an equivilant of the Oscars abroad..and the others State awards! So unfortunate that this movie dint have the means to nominate itself for the Oscars that year! It was a clear winner!

The hero of the movie however is Madhu Muttam! Him and his Characters! Unfortunately for him, he dint patent his story...the one producers and directors are using to make their bread!

The legacy of Manichitrathazhu doesnt end here.. It is being carried forward towards bollywood..by none other than Priyadarshan(who, as a matter of fact directed a part of Manichitrathazhu along with Sibi Malayail and Fazil)Finally bollwood escapes the clutches of glossy over-rated glam show/gangster movies!

Priyadarshan's version of Manichitrathazhu is remade and renamed as "Bhool Bhulaiya" (starring Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Shiney Ahuja). It is slated to release later this year.

Whether Bollywood appreciates a classic, whether Priyadarshan creates magic once again, whether Akshay Kumar lives upto Mohanlal/Vishuvardhan/Rajnikanth, whether Vidya Balan delivers as "Ganga", whether Priyan finally gets his due from bollywood .... remains to be seen....

Oh and I bet you can see a clip of the climax song from the Hindi version, Right here!
