Blood diamond....

You would think twice before u decide to buy another diamond if you've watched this film...

Exceptional performances by Leonardo Dicaprio and Dijimon Hounusou..

The film essentially deals with conflict diamonds. Conflict diamonds or Blood diamonds refers to diamonds, typically mined in Africa, and sold in order to finance an insurgency, an invading army's war efforts, or to support a warlord's activity(imdb).

The movie begins with a picturesque view into the humble life of Solomon Vandy; a fisherman in war-stricken Sierra Leone... Soon their village is attacked by RUF(Revolutionary United Front) and Solomon & son Dia are captured. Solomons wife and daughters are sent to a refugee camp. Dia is brain-washed to turn into a child soldier like so many thousands... Solomon is made to work in the diamond mines.

It is when Solomon finds a big pink diamond when things turn around. Solomon decides he will use this to bargain for freedom...

Danny Archer is an ex-military Rhodesian and a smuggler who wants to get out Africa and start his life once again anew...

Maddy Bowen is a journalist, tired of writing only superficial stories about war and poverty and hunger... She is looking for the story of her life in Sierra Leone... a story she knows has everything to do with the multinational diamond trading company Van De Kapp... a story for which she has no proof...

Archer hears of the big pink diamond and promises Solomon to help him find his family if he trades this diamond with him... Solomon is apprehensive at first, but goes along anyway coz he has no other options.... Archer convinces Maddy to get them access to the refugee camps to meet with Solomons family... It is now when he realizes his son Dia has been captured...

Solomon wants to get his son back and Archer wants to get into the heart of Sierra Leone to procure the diamond.. Only Maddy has access and Archer trades the proof shes looking for in return for the favor....

The movie glides along picturesque locales as Archer and Solomon run miles to reach their destination....

Dicaprio has grown up....finally... !! He has broken his chocolate boy image and brought forward a new and improved, toughened look...and he has pulled it off sucessfully...

And 9 years after Titanic... "ey em tellin u ma bru... ey em wonce agein a FAN!!!"
